Some of the most expensive properties are located on the shores of the lake. This is a historic house built in 1840 and regarded as one of the town’s best-preserved houses. If you are looking for Greek Revival architecture, the Cosier-Murphy house is a good example. The house is located in a rural residential area with a two-story wood-frame design, three bays wide, a front-gabled roof, and shed roof additions. The interior has well-preserved period woodwork. This old house, along with the small agricultural outbuilding, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
This is a 1,200-acre park ideal for hiking, letterboxing, mountain biking, bird watching, snowmobiling, hunting, and cross-country skiing. The adjacent Squantz Pond State Park can be accessed via trails from the main forest property. The 5.1-kilometer loop trail also features a lake that offers different activity options. It has 240 elevation gain. This hilly terrain with great views and features is located mainly in New Fairfield, so adventurers won’t have a difficult time finding the place.
The Squantz Pond consists of 270 acres, and the state park has 172 acres of the southwestern shore. This attraction is open to the public who want to go swimming, fishing, boating, scuba diving, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. The park immerses every visitor in a “mountain-like” environment, as steep, wooded slopes vanish into the cool, blue pond below. During fall, the park becomes a sanctuary for most photographers as the site enables them to capture the colorful foliage that reflects on the surface of the water. There is a facility for nature center programs and exhibits. It is a great place to go on a picnic with family and friends.
